In library class we have been talking about measurement based around the How We Organize Ourselves UOI. After reading "If I Built a Car" and "If I Built a School" by Chris Van Dusen, 2nd graders designed their own "imaginary, ideal library" floor plans and then created them out of Lego in the Makerspace. We also spent one library class using rulers, tape measures, and other measuring devices to measure the whole library!

This was such a fun activity and the kids loved getting to spend time in the Makerspace playing with the Lego.

Our first two lessons were reading the two previously mentioned Van Dusen books. For our third lesson my husband, our PYP Design teacher, helped put together a presentation about floor plans and we saw an example of the design we would be drawing. Our fifth lesson was drawing the actual designs and our sixth lesson was creating the Lego pieces in the Makerspace. Our seventh and final lesson was a Seesaw reflection on the experience.
